Our Facilities

Organizational Capacity

CSIR-FRIs’ overall capacity depends upon its resources (human, physical, financial, and technological) and its management (Leadership, program and process management, and networking and linkages). CSIR-FRIs’ resources include personnel, facilities; vehicles, equipment, and funding that are at its disposal.

Facilities

The Institute has three main sites; Okponglo South Legon Accra(Main office, laboratory and Processing); Pokuasi Amasaman District ( Pilot Processing of Root and turber products) ; Bronz Tito Avenue Cantonments Accra (Offices and residential).

These facilities are equipped with analytical laboratories for chemistry, microbiology and biochemistry toxicology and nutrition. It also has an engineering and maintenance workshop, a test kitchen, sensory evaluation and salt iodation laboratories.

In addition, the Institute has a pilot processing plant equipped with operational wet and dry processing lines which also houses the sorghum malting and brewing unit. The Institute has established a Root and Tuber Processing and Demonstration plant at Pokuase, near Accra. It also has facilities for mycology studies, specifically mushroom cultivation at the site at Okponglo, Accra. Fifteen of its analytical methods are accredited to ISO/IEC 17025:2005.

About the Library

The Food Research Institute library is one of the most important research libraries that provides and disseminates information in the field of food science and technology, nutrition, food microbiology, aflatoxins and mycotoxins, agricultural economics and food engineering in the country.

The clientele of the library has extended beyond the institute’s research and technical staff to include students from the various universities and polytechnics in Ghana. The library is also patronized by lecturers, farmers, Industrialists, Journalist, Civil servants and Public servants, Consultants and many others. These users are attracted to its rich and extensive print and electronic resources that have been gathered throughout its history.

The library is located on Second floor of FRI Main Building in Room (G3). The facilities and resources in the library are primarily reserved for FRI Staff, but other patrons accessed the facilities for reference purposes.

Institutional Repository

The Food Research Institute (FRI) Institutional Repository is an online locus for collecting, preserving and disseminating the intellectual output/research output of FRI. The Repository contains journal articles, technical reports, conference papers, conference abstracts, manuals, flyers, annual reports, thesis dissertations, posters and newspaper publication in the field of food science and technology, nutrition, food microbiology, aflatoxins and mycotoxins, agricultural economics, information management and food engineering

Food Research Institute is located Adjacent to Ghana Standards Authority, Near Gulf House, Tetteh Quarshie Interchange, Accra, Ghana. We are open to the general public from Monday to Friday 7:30am - 5:00pm, excluding holidays.
